Mulch is quiet, invisible labor. A fresh mulch layer locks moisture into the soil, moderates ground temperature, suppresses weeds, and prevents erosion during heavy rain. As it breaks down, it feeds the soil itself — building the healthy microbial life that regenerative land care depends on. It also gives beds and tree rings that clean, finished look that frames your whole property.

It's one of the highest-value services we offer: a single well-executed mulching visit changes how the entire property reads, and it keeps working — holding water, shading roots, smothering weed seed — for a full year afterward.
A proper mulch job starts before the mulch arrives. We edge the beds to carve a crisp boundary between turf and garden, pull or smother the existing weeds, clean out debris and old leaf litter, and — where a feeding is in order — apply a slow-release fertilizer beneath the mulch so it works its way in over the season.
Then we spread to the right depth: thick enough to do its job, thin enough at the base of trees and crowns of plants to let them breathe. Mulch piled against trunks (the dreaded mulch volcano) holds moisture against bark and invites rot — we never do it.
Shredded bark is our default: it mats together, resists blowing around in our wind events, breaks down at a steady rate, and knits into that dark, natural look that suits Northern California properties. For play areas and paths, we can source chunkier or engineered options; for vegetable beds and natives, we can bring in compost-based blends that lean harder into soil building.
We deliver and spread the mulch ourselves — no dump in the driveway for you to deal with — and we clean up hard surfaces before we go.
A two-to-three-inch mulch layer dramatically cuts evaporation from the soil surface — which means your irrigation water stays where roots can use it, and your beds need less of it. The same layer blocks light from weed seeds below, cutting weeding by a large margin all season.
For new trees and shrubs, mulch is survival equipment: it buffers the shallow root zone from Sacramento's summer heat and winter's hard rain. It's the single best thing you can do for anything newly planted — and one of the cheapest.

Learn moreGrubs, chinch bugs, and sod webworms feed on grass roots and blades, and by the time you see the damage, the infestation is already deep. We spot the early signs and treat the problem at its source.
Learn moreWhen autumn leaves blanket a lawn, they smother the grass underneath. We clear leaves from turf, beds, and hardscape — raked, bagged, and hauled away in a single quiet visit.
